Known as Graf von Marburg und Truchsen (Trixen), reeve of St. Paul and Markgraf of Windische Mark. Married Kunigunde, the sister of Margrave Leopold the Strong of Steyer (d. 1129). Died on 16 November 1147 in Laodicea in the Second Crusade. His title of Graf of Marburg is recorded in the Landbuch von Österreich und Steier (1245), somewhat anachronistically, as during the lifetime of Bernhard, there was no castle at Marburg.
