Granard was Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, a lord-in-waiting to Edward VII, Master of the Horse for both Edward VII and George V, and a member of the Senate of the Irish Free State (1922-34). He and Beatrice rented Dartmouth House on Charles Street (now the home of the English-Speaking Union), where they gave big (reputedly dull) political receptions and entertained Edward VII during Derby Week.
