Tuininga, Benjamin age 90, longtime resident of the Biwabik area and formerly of Minneapolis & Chicago died Friday July 27, 2007 in St. Raphael's Health and Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth. He was born August 31, 1916 in Worthington, MN the son of Hendrik "Henry" and Geertje (Vanderkooi) Tuininga. He graduated from Hull Christian High School in Hull, IA and went on to receive his Bachelor's degree from Wheaton College and a year of medical training for the mission field. He was married to his first wife, Margaret Jean McPhee on December 31, 1941. Following her death he was married to Grace Bejian on September 9, 2000. Ben was a servant of the Lord who worked as a minister, evangelist, church planter, college professor and a police chaplain. Ben was founder and director of Story Book Lodge Christian Camp for over 40 years. He was a member of the Bible Chapel in Virginia where he served as an elder. Ben was a Greek scholar and Bible student, and he enjoyed being a beekeeper. Ben is survived by his wife, Grace; his children, Ruth (Dean) Lindstrom of Rochester, MN, Sue (Dave) Lewicki of Plymouth, MN, and Ben "B.J." (Melanie) Tuininga of Maple Grove, MN; a sister, Gertrude Baker of Orange City, IA; a brother, Clarence Tuininga of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Jean; a sister, Cora Bleyenburg; and a brother, Harry Tuininga. A private family service was held. A public Memorial Celebration of Ben's life is planned for Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 7:00 pm, at Story Book Lodge. The family prefers that memorials be directed to Story Book Lodge.
