Benjamin Moore, son of William and Hannah Moore and brother of Obediah. This Benjamin Moore records land transactions in Albemarle County in the 1770s.

Possibly the same as the Benjamin Moore listed in various web trees as born about 1746 in Amherst County, Virginia,death about 1820, and marriage to Letitia Martin about 1760? in Albemarle County.

I Benjamin Moore of the County of Albemarle being weak in body but of sound mind and memory and judgement do hereby Constitute and appoint this my last will and testament[:] in the first place I commit my soul unto God that gave it[,] my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner which I leave to the direction of my executors hereafter mentioned[;] as to my worldly affairs my Will and desire is that my just debts be paid. Item. I give and bequeath to Amuel Moore Elizabeth Lines Isaace Moore Moses Moore John Moore Benjamin Moore Nancy Paterson Martha Patizen and Abigal Thacker. Sarah Moore and Plat Moore are to have out of my Estate one Dollar each. Of them only this true[.] Of this my last will and is all the rest my aforesaid children all my Estate, real and personal, to be equally divided amongst my aforementioned children. I do hereby revoke all and disanull all other wills heretofore made and do herby appoint Isaac Moore and John Moore for my executors of this my last will and Testament.     [FHL film 0030216, Vol. 14, p. 390:] Division of "land belonging to Benjamin Moore deceased" dated 29 Mar 1832, mentions heirs Isaac Moore, Elizabeth Lyons, Moses Moore, Lemul Moore, Nancy Patterson, Martha Patterson, Jn'o Moore, Abigail Thacker, and Benjamin Moore.

While a "John More of the Township of Acquacknunk [Paterson, NJ] in the County of Essex" did name a son Benjamin in his will dated 30 Sep 1793, proved 7 Nov 1805, there are other facts that may suggest his son Benjamin was not the same person. More research is needed.

Litigation of Benjamin Moore's will connects his daughter, Elizabeth Moore Lines, with Aquackanonk Township in Essex County, New Jersey. Research is needed to more fully detail this daughter, her husband (listed at Anthony Lines by Arthur Clayton Moore but likely to be a different man), and their other children (beyond Benjamin M. Lines). This research might reveal documentation for the Benjamin Moore family in New Jersey.

    Benjamin Moore's son, Platt Patterson Moore married Milly Langford in Albemarle County in 29 September 1788. This suggests that the family was already established in Albemarle County by that date. (Albemarle County Record of Marriage Bonds 1780-1806/B/C papers 1788-92).

    The 1785 Virginia State Census does not list a Benjamin Moore in Albemarle County.

    Benjamin Moore is documented in Albemarle County in September 1791. (Albemarle County Order Book 1791-1793, p. 8 (9 September 1791 N.S.) as referenced in ALBEMARLE COUNTY ROAD ORDERS 1783-1816, by Nathaniel Mason Pawlett. There should be land records in Albemarle County prior to this date, additional research into deeds may shed light on the year of arrival of the family in Virginia.
