From the Jackson Ledger: "Benjamin made his home for several years with his cousin, Stephen P. Jackson." This must have been before he married and later moved to Yellow Creek because by 1840 he was in Lewis County, Virginia (now West Virginia). Benjamin and Betty must have lived after their marriage, right next to her parents as they were listed next to each other on the 1840 Lewis County, (W)VA Census, Roll 566, Page 166.

Below is a portion of an article transcribed by Norma Knotts Shaffer from microfilms of the Calhoun Chronicle dated 6/12/1898. The author of this article is not given, but it was probably written by the newspaper's editor at the time, S.C. Barr. This transcription found at the Hur Herald site:
"Ben Jackson, an enterprising young man, settled with his young wife on the place now known as the old Jackson farm in 1843. Their rude, but comfortable log cabin was then the only house on the path between the Little Kanawha and Hughes river, the way the path then ran from Leafbank to the present site of Smithville."

Quote from son Edward's obit: "Benjamine Jackson moved to Yellow Creek in the early 1840s when there were few settlers in this part of the country." On several papers, it is noted that Benjamin's name was spelled Benjamine. After Benjamin died Elizabeth married again. She and her new husband (Ferrell) are found in the 1860 census for Calhoun County; therefore, Bengamine died before 1860.

Benjamin is buried at Hunt Cemetery, Calhoun County, West Virginia and his stone gives his death date and age in yr, mos and days. So his calculated birth date is 10 Nov 1816. Some family records state his birth date was 23 Oct 1817 so I don't know which is correct.
