Facts and Events
Below is a portion of an article transcribed by Norma Knotts Shaffer from microfilms of the Calhoun Chronicle dated 6/12/1898. The author of this article is not given, but it was probably written by the newspaper's editor at the time, S.C. Barr. This transcription found at the Hur Herald site: Quote from son Edward's obit: "Benjamine Jackson moved to Yellow Creek in the early 1840s when there were few settlers in this part of the country." On several papers, it is noted that Benjamin's name was spelled Benjamine. After Benjamin died Elizabeth married again. She and her new husband (Ferrell) are found in the 1860 census for Calhoun County; therefore, Bengamine died before 1860. Benjamin is buried at Hunt Cemetery, Calhoun County, West Virginia and his stone gives his death date and age in yr, mos and days. So his calculated birth date is 10 Nov 1816. Some family records state his birth date was 23 Oct 1817 so I don't know which is correct. References
