Information included with the Rhoton to Abshier letter of March 2003 indicated the year of birth was 1759.

His father George bequeathed land in (Russel Parish, Bedford County?) Virgina, "between Ivie Creek and Walnut Hollar Branch", when he died in 1785. His father spelled Bartholomew's name as "Gaddy" in the will, but somewhere during his lifetime Bartholomew must have changed it to "Gaddie". His name is also listed as "Gaddy" in the "Bedford County Marriage Bonds" book, by Dennis & Smith.
