August was a builder by trade. He used to translate english letters into German and read them to Augusta. They lived at Mooiplaas, Stutterheim, Butterworth and then Willowvale. Augusta Fredericke Wilheimina's mother, Mrs Pagel and her family used to own Pagel's Circus. She was in charge of selling tickets and rumour has it that she never gave change as she could not read or count, she was later made to check tickets. August Fredrick Ferdinand died on the 22nd February 1921 at the age of 66 and Augusta Fredrike Wilhelmina died on the 22nd December 1933 at the age of 77. They were both buried in Butterworth.
