About Arthur Reicher
Arthur Norton "Art" Reicher was born 21 July 1922 in New York, son of Samuel Reicher (1893-1983) and his wife Anna, both immigrants to America from Austria or Russia. Art moved with his family to Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio prior to the 1930 Census and prior to 1935, they had re-located to Los Angeles, California [per 1940 Census Records]. During 1940 Arthur was attending college and had completed three years of his high school education.
Art started working in the retail grocery industry in about 1940 and in about 1945 he started working for Better Food Markets, a supermarket chain founded by his father and uncle. He worked his way up to executive positions within Better Food Market before taking some of the stores and forming Kory's Market, a five-store independent operator in the early 1950's.

As an independent retailer, Art spent 18 years as a member of the Board of Directors and financial advisor of the Wholesale Grocery Cooperative Certified Grocers of California, the predecessor company of Unified Grocers, before leaving the Board of Directors of Unified when he sold his stores to Boys Markets in 1973.
Art Reicher passed away on 9 January 2005 in Los Angeles County, California. His leadership and many contributions in the food industry have been remembered by his co-workers and friends in the food industry.

OBITUARY: ARTHUR N. REICHER.
LOS ANGELES -- Funeral services have been held here for Arthur N. Reicher, 82, a longtime supermarket executive and financial adviser to Unified Western Grocers here. Reicher worked for Better Foods, a chain founded by his father and uncle, before taking some of the stores and forming Kory's Market, a five-store independent operator in the early 1950s. He spent 18 years as a director of Certified Grocers of California, predecessor company to Unified, before leaving the board when he sold his stores to Boys Markets in 1973.
