US Congressman. The son of a Prussian born father, he served as a Democrat representing his Ohio district from 1931 to 1939. He was born in Port Washington, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. In 1907 he moved to Columbus, Ohio where he became successful in the sheet metal business. After serving in Congress for four terms, he lost two reelection bids and was unsuccessful in an attempt to be elected mayor of Columbus. He died in Ohio's capital city after a short but successful stint in the coal business.
