Discrepancy in Birthdate of Arthur Jonson/Johnston

Some sources claim that this Arthur Jonson/Johnston was born abt. 1688, but this would have made him 35 years older than his wife, Margaret Phares/Ferris. Other sources cite his birthdate as "abt. 1718", which appears to be more plausible. Additional research is needed to prove Arthur's correct birthdate.

• Page 5.--25th August, 1770. John Johns(t)on and Mary to William Bowver, £30, 124 acres, part of 200 acres left by Arthur Johnston, deceased, to his two sons, John and Andrew, bounded as by decree of Augusta County Court; corner Daniel Harrison; also 18-1/2 acres, part of 37 acres, adjoining above tract also left by said Arthur to said two sons by will. Delivered: Wm. Bowyer, 8th April, 1771.

Arthur Jonson's will--To sons John and Andrew Jonson, tract testator now lives on, with adjoining survey called Hunters Gulley; to son Arthur, tract adjoining Ellick Herrin's line; to wife (pregnant), executrix (estate, if she do not marry); to remaining children, viz: Jane, Sarah, Mary Jonson. Teste: Danl. Harrison, Saml. Hemphill, Edward McGarry. Proved, 15th August, 1759, by Harrison and Hemphill. Widow, Margaret qualified, with Daniel Love and Robert Cravens.

• Page 66.--18th August, 1761. George Moser's sale bill recorded--To Nicholas Hufman, Philip Harper. Cash by Smith and Love for Peter Roling. Paid Ephraim Love, Arthur Johnson, Thos. Wilmouth, to nursing deceased 5 weeks when he was under the doctor, and taking care of his creatures.

• Vol. 1 - AUGUST, 1773 (A). - Arthur Johnston lived on Roanoke of Cook's Creek, which he desires to be divided between his two sons, John and Andrew. Capt. Dan Smith was chosen guardian of John, who married before he arrived at full age, when his guardian and stepfather gave him his moiety, which was where his stepfather Greeg lived, who moved off in consequence, and then John sold part to William Bowyer.

• Vol. 1 - AUGUST, 1773 (A). - Daniel Smith vs. Wm. Bowyer.--Chancery writ, 19th December, 1772. Bond of Wm. Bowyer to Wm. Gregg, to convey to him land on headsprings of Hunter's Gully (Cook's Creek), which he bought of John Johnson; dated 1767. Assigned by Gregg to Robert Hill, 1768. Assigned by Hill to Wm. Bowyer, 1772. In 1759 Arthur Johnston died, with will proved in Augusta, devising lands to his sons, John and Andrew, adjoining the late Daniel Harrison, deceased. Arthur's widow, Margaret, married Wm. Gregg.
