Archie W. ThompsonS2 Born May 6, 1892, in Manvers Township near Yelverton, he was the son of the late William and Katherine Jane (Fowler) Thompson. He attended Salem Public School and Bowmanville Central Public School. On April 1st, 1918, he married the former Elsie Pearl Jacks who predeceased him in 1938. In his early years, he lived in Bowmanville and New Toronto and as a young man was employed at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company plants in Bowmanville and New Toronto. He was employed in New Toronto until April, 1919, at which time he purchased a farm property. A successful farmer for 50 years, he had resided at R.R. 5, Bowmanville, for 51 years. The deceased was first a member of St. Paul’s Church, Bowmanville, then later a member of Salem United Church. For a number of years he was a Trustee of Salem Public School. Mr. Thompson is survived by three daughters, [names of living individuals have been removed], and a sister, Mrs. Howard Willoughby (Annie). He was predeceased by a sister, Addie, and a brother, Bert. Also surviving are a sister-in-law and niece, [names of living individuals have been removed] of Westlake, Ohio. A very large number of floral tributes attested to the high esteem in which the deceased was held, among which were those from Salem United Church, and W. Frank Real Estate Ltd. The funeral service was held from the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville, on Thursday afternoon, January 15, at 2 o’clock, and was conducted by Rev. Harold A. Turner of St. Paul’s United Church, Bowmanville. Interment was in Bowmanville Cemetery. Pallbearers were a cousin, Mr. Frank McGill and neighbors, Messrs. James Coombes, Allan Stephen, Ernest Fairey, Leslie Welch and Matthew Marchant. References
