Archibald Huston, Jr. (son of Archibald Huston, Senior and Mary Ann Stephenson) was born Abt. 1774 in Mill Creek, Augusta County, VA, and died Aft. 1851 in Hustonville, Lincoln County, Ky.. He married (1) Sarah Gay on July 09, 1792 in Lincoln County, Ky., daughter of Thomas Gay and Margaret. He married (2) Martha Williams on August 12, 1800 in Rockingham County, VA..

    Notes for Archibald Huston, Jr.:
Archibald was the youngest son of Archibald Huston Senior, who died in Rockingham County VA, and is well documented among the Scots-Irish of that area. Archibald Senior was the son of David Houston who died in 1763 in Rowan County, NC. and is also well-documented as one of the early settlers of the area. Additionally, he was among those who received a grant for land in PA previous to his relocating to NC. I have copies of both deeds. David was among the several Huston/Houston families (they spelled their name both ways back then, David having recorded his will with the O present, while most of his sons dropped it from the spelling...) who arrived in the Chester Co. PA area in 1729 from Ulster, Northern Ireland.

By the turn of the century, the population in the valley of Dick's River and Carpenter Creek had increased immensely, as had the towns of Stanford and Danville. Archibald Huston married Sally Gay in 1792. She was the daughter of Thomas Gay, who had recently moved into Lincoln County. The Gay family migrated from the Ulster Plantation of Northern Ireland and settled first in Pennsylvania before the Revolution. A number of brothers later moved to Augusta County, Virginia and settled in the "Calf Pasture" section, before moving to Kentucky. Meanwhile, Mary Huston, the daughter of Stephenson Huston, married Matthew Slaughter, the nephew of Kentucky Governor Gabriel Slaughter. The named their first son Stephenson Huston Slaughter.

I show Archibald Huston, b. 1774, married twice, one wife was Martha Williams, the other Sally Gay (Prob. Sarah, called Sally). Sally Gay and Archibald Huston had at least 8 children, one being a James Huston. Have no info on him, except that he may have been born abt. 1804, Lincoln Co., Ky., d. abt. Jan 1843, maybe in Daviess Co., Ky. Another son of Sally and Archibald's was Ambrose Lee Huston (1813, Lincoln Co., Ky. d. abt. 1904 Cass Co., Mo.) He married Elizabeth C. Lee in 1837, had a son named James A. Huston, b. abt. 1846, Ky, d. abt. 1905, Drexel, Mo.
