Ann Meakins was born on 12th November 1776 and baptised two months later at Woburn in Bedfordshire. She was the daughter of Ann Meakins, formerly Wilson, and her husband John Meakins.

In 1793 Ann’s mother died, when Ann was sixteen years old.

On 3rd June 1799, aged 22, Ann married William Buttenshaw at Woburn. They went on to have a daughter called Hannah, who was baptised at Woburn in October 1801. The family has yet to be traced after Hannah’s baptism; presumably they moved to a different area.
