Ann Luff was baptised on 16th September 1797 at Fernhurst in Sussex, daughter of John Luff and his wife Hannah Goodner.

When Ann was 35 years old she married a gardener named Henry Edwards. They married at Portsea, the parish which surrounded the town of Portsmouth in Hampshire. After their marriage they moved to Chichester, where their first son, Walter Henry, was baptised in 1835. They then moved to Runcton in the parish of North Mundham, a little way south of Chichester, where they had twins, George and William, in 1836. Sadly the twins died as babies, both being buried on Christmas Day 1836.

Ann and Henry had one further son, Alfred, baptised at North Mundham in 1840.

The 1841 census finds Henry living in Runcton alone, whilst Ann and her two surviving sons Walter and Alfred were staying with Ann's widowed sister, Hannah Child, who ran an inn in Chichester. The 1851 census finds Ann, Henry, their son Alfred and Ann's sister Hannah Child living at Chilgrove in the parish of West Dean. They had moved again by 1861, with Ann, Henry and Ann's sister Hannah Child living at Cocking.

Ann died aged 65, being buried at West Lavington on 15th May 1863. Her final abode was given as Cocking Causeway, a hamlet which straddled the parishes of Cocking and West Lavington. Henry survived her by about 21 years.

This baptism has been linked to the Ann Luff who married Henry Edwards on the basis that in the censuses she consistently claimed to have been born around 1797 in Fernhurst, whilst in each census she was living with a widow named Hannah Child, who was also from Fernhurst and can be shown to be sister of the Ann Luff baptised in 1797:
