County of Hardy, State of Virginia - June 9, 1798

In The Name of God Amen I Ann Cahoon of the County of Hardy and State of Virginia being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed as to all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executor nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty power of God and in touching such wordly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in following manner and form -- in the first place I alow all my just debts and funeral Charges to be paid out of my Estate.

Item) I give and bequeath to the widow and children of my beloved brother John Dunbar deceased Eighty pounds to be equally divided between them.

Item) I give and bequeath to my beloved niece Elenor Blizzard Thirty five pounds also a large pewter dish and a black gown.

Item) I give and bequeath to my beloved niece Rachel Roberts twenty five pounds also a frying pan a blanket and a sheet.

Item) I give and bequeath to my beloved Sister Elenor How fifty pounds.

Item) I give and bequeath to my beloved Sister Martha Jackson fifty pounds.

Item) I give and bequeath to my beloved Sister Margaret Claypool one hundred pounds also my saddle bridle a fine hat a red coverlet a [hollon] apron a [dicpes] table cloth and a cotton pettycoat and bed gown.

Item) I give and bequeath to my beloved nephew Jacob Claypool ten pounds also a big bible a chest a big cittle and all my iron tools and farming utensils.

Item) I give and bequeath to my two beloved nieces (To wit) Elizabeth Claypool and Tirzah Claypool two Cows a pot a [bake] cittle my pewter all but my large Dish and twenty pounds to be Equally divided between them at the apraisement.

All the rest of my moveable Estate after the before named Legases are taken out I alow to be sold Then by public or privet sail at the discretion of my Executor and the money a Rising there from to be equally divided between the before named legatees.

I likewise constitute make and ordain James Claypool the sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and and disanul all and every other former testaments wills Legacies Bequests and Executors by me in any way before named willed and Bequeathed Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and Seal this Ninth Day of June in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Ninety eight.

At a Court held for Hardy County the 10th day of April 1810 this last Will and Testament was proved by the Oaths of John Woollard & David [Basiser] two of the Witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded And on the motion of James Claypool the Executor named in the said Will Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form he [hath] taken the Oath of an Executor and together with Isaac Chrisman his Security entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of Two thousand dollars conditioned as the Law directs.
