Notes
- ANN MARY BURGER SPEARS Born February 16, 1762--died January 7, 1847--Aged 85 years. (The tombstone of Ann Mary Spears bears the above inscription). The grave is in the enclosed area back of the old house which is on the Georgetown Pike out of Cynthiana, KY. The house is on the left of the road going toward Georgetown and is about two miles beyond the settlement called Broadwell. The tomb beside her is unmarked. It seems that the local chapter of D.A.R. is quite confident, however, that it is the tomb of Christian for both bear a D.A.R. marker. It would seem certain that she was born in Virginia, probably in Augusta county. Records of Augusta county, Vol II p 321--Chalkley, show John Burger on a list of levys 1773-74. It is possible, however, that she was born in Albemarle county, VA., the county in which her grandfather resided, and certainly the home county of John Burger for a time. Notes on the Spears family state that Ann Mary was taken prisoner at Ruddle's Fort. Reference is also made to Draper's statement that Christian Spears married a fellow prisoner. The bronze memorial on the court house wall at Paris, KY names Christian Spears as a Revolutionary War Patriot. The Historical Scrap Book of Bourbon county names the prisoners taken at Ruddle's Fort and includes the names of Christian Spears, Anna Maria, his fiancee, and John Burger.
