Acquisition of Land in Virginia:

• Page 47 - Andrew Shanklin, 55 acres, between Jeremiah Ragan and William Patijohn. Adjoining Harrison. May 14, 1785. [Abstract of Land Grant Surveys, 1761-1791, Augusta & Rockingham Counties, Virginia, by Peter Cline Kaylor, pg. 114].

• Page 417.-(undated, bet. May-June 1772) - Patent to John Harrison, deceased, 10th July, 1755, and was devised to Feby Harrison, wife of said James Dyer. Teste: Daniel Smith, Felix Gilbert, Andrew Shanklin, Andrew Greer.

• Vol. 2 - 1778--November 23d, Administration of Wm. Shanklin granted brother Andrew Shanklin.

• Vol. 2 - 1779-- November 23d, Andrew Shanklin recommended First Lieutenant.

• Page 29.--13th October, 1787. Settlement of Thomas Shanklin's estate by John Shanklin, accounts in 1774, and by Robert Shanklin, accounts in 1786. 1774, paid John Fairbern; 1786, paid Elizabeth Shanklin, executrix of John Shanklin, deceased. Commissioners report there is a balance in hands of George Baxter, Thos. Shanklin, and Elizabeth Shanklin (widow), and of Robert Shanklin; all these persons are reported as executors by Andrew Shanklin, who acts for his father, Robert Shanklin.

• Vol. 2 - JUDGMENTS. SEPTEMBER, 1790 (H to Z). - Michael Mullan, William Lamme, Francis Stewart vs. Benjamin Harrison and Andrew Shanklin--Appeal from Rockingham, 1789. Suit began 1786.

• Vol. 2 - APRIL, 1793 (H to Y). - Stephen Hansborough vs. John Vise--Writ to Rockingham, May, 1792. Defendant, Andrew Shankland, was sheriff of Rockingham, 1792.

• Vol. 2 - EXECUTIONS. SEPTEMBER, 1794 (K to Z) - Mustoe vs. Harrison--Attachment against Andrew Shanklin, Benjamin Smith, John Ewin, Samuel and Reuben Harrison and other Justices of County Court, Rockingham, for not granting appeal to Anthony Mustoe, as commanded, 13th September, 1792. Proceedings in case of Ezekiel Harrison on Anthony Mustoe. Mandamus awarded 7th April, 1791. Judgment given in County Court, 25th August, 1790.

• Vol. 2 - APRIL, 1804 (S to Z). - Andrew Shanklin vs. Elizabeth Francis--Slander, from Rockingham. Daughter Betty. Declaimant recites he is "an old man, the father of a family, an honest, sober, and has been generally believed, a religious man, a teacher of the ignorant, eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame; a magistrate, a terror to the evil doer, but a praise to those who do well," &c.

• Vol. 2 - SEPTEMBER, 1804 (R to Z). - Betsey Shanklin (a single woman), alias Betsey Murray, infant, by Andrew Shanklin, next friend, complains of Ezekiel Logan and Margaret, his wife.

   June 24, 1783.
   Agreeable to an order of the court in March preceding, for the sheriff to let the paving of that part of the Court House from the Lawyers Barr to the Chimney Ordered that Andrew Shanklin Let the said work with an Addition of two Windows one of each side of the Chair containing Twelve lights each Eight by Ten to be finished in a workmanlike manner with Suitable Shutters &c. by August Court next." On September 23 this work was reported satisfactorily completed.
   
   "0 That William Herring and Andrew Shanklin Gent. do lay off the Prison bounds."
   
   Pursuant to the above, Herring and Shanklin made report that the said prison bounds "do begin at a Walnut tree In the Corner of Reeves Lott, from thence to a Stone set up below the South East end of Deviers House, from thence to two black Oak saplins growing from one Root, in the North Side of Lanahans Lott, from thence to a Stone Set up at the West side of Rutherfords Kitchen and from thence to the Beginning."
   
   Note: this is an interesting record in Rockingham County, as both William Herring and Andrew Shanklin married sisters, both daughters of William Stephenson, and Andrew Shanklin's son, Andrew Jr. married Abigail Herring in 1782.
