    Mrs. J. Q. Bishop
    Amanda Ellen Sparks, daughter of James and Elizabeth Sparks, was born in Cedar county, near Mosco, Oct. 4, 1850, and passed away at her home, five miles west of Knoxville, Iowa, July 27, 1934, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 23 days.

    When she was 4 years old her parents moved by covered wagon to Marion county. The family located on what is now the Loren Harvey farm, south of Knoxville. Eleven years later the family moved to Palmyra, Iowa, where they had lived only 10 days when the father died. A year leater the mother and children moved to what is now the Dan Fee place, west of town.

    On October 17, 1866, Amanda Ellen was united in marriage to John Q. Bishop. A month later they moved to the farm which has been the family home for nearly 68 years.

    Nine children came to bless their home, one of them died in infancy. Two daughters, Genevieve, and Mrs. Edith Harding preceded the mother in death. The husband and father died June 12, 1910. the living are Mrs. Estelle Peters, Stanford Montana; Mrs. Millie Anthony, Beech, Iowa; Mrs. May Anderson and Abijah Bishop of Knoxville; Luella and Glenn at home.

    Early in life Mrs. Bishop united with the Presbyterian church in Knoxville. She was born a good witness for Christ as her Lord and Savior. And her seal for the building of His kingdom never abated.

    The deceased is survived by her children, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Edna Van Syoe of Milo, and two brothers, John Sparks of Gerard, Kansas, and Jeptha, of Milo, Iowa.

    The funeral services are being held up at this writing, pending the locating of Glenn, who is now on a trip west.
