Alonzo S. Austin, 91, the oldest member of Orient Lodge, No. 238, F. & A. M., of this village, died in the Masonic home in Utica, where he had been a guest since October, 1925, early Saturday morning. Mr. Austin had been ill but a few weeks, death being caused by diabetes and the infirmities of age. The remains were brought to this village by Undertaker C. E. Ryther, Saturday afternoon. Mr. Austin was born in the town of Denmark in March 1841, a son of the late Silas and Sallle Austin, and would have celebrated his 92d birthday next month. His entire life was passed in this county, with the exception of his residence at the Masonic home in Utica. He followed farming in Denmark until 40 years ago, when he moved to this village. His wife, Mrs. Maria VanSlyke Austin, died in Copenhagen eight years ago. Mr. Austin joined Orient Lodge, F. and A. M., in Denmark village, August 15, 1864, the lodge then being know as No. 150, which was later transferred to Copenhagen and given the number 238. He filled several offices in the lodge during his long membership, and in December, 1920, was honored by being made a life member. Surviving is a niece, Mrs. Gertrude Lasher, Carthage, and two cousins, Mrs. Emma Paris and John B. Austin, both of this village. Funeral services were
held In Masonic temple here at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Rev. F. E. Hartley, the presenf worshipful master of the lodge, officiating. The bearers were L. D. Sheldon; H. A. Babcock, S. W. Parsons, W. A. Twining, A. G. Ryther, and A. A. Chickering. The remains were placed in Riverside cemetery vault here, awaiting Interment in the Swinburne cemetery, Deer River, in the spring.
