Biography of A D Ashburn

A D Ashburn was born in Texas, most likely around Kaufman, Texas where the family is found living on the 1920 U. S. Census. He has not been found on the 1940 census -- his sister's family had moved to Hopkins County, Texas where his mother is found living with her daughter, Thelma Lee Barrow. In 1945 A D married Nelwyn Ruth Williams in Sullivan County, Tennessee. The couple moved to Birmingham after their marriage and Nelwyn passed away there on 1st September, 1953.

As a little girl I remember "Cousin" A D visiting our home in Dallas, Texas during the late 1950's. He would sometimes stop by our home when he was traveling and spend the night at our house. He owned a movie camera and it was the first one I had ever seen. I remember it had four large lights mounted to the camera and was very bright when he took a "movie" of us. As a little girl I had lived on my grandparents daily farm in Hopkins County and we knew "Aunt Susie Ashburn" {his mother) and the Barrow family. I don't remember the last time I saw him but the"Movie" experience was one that I have never forgotten. He also took a lot of pictures of us. [9]
