William Sproull's will--To wife, Susanna; son, James; son, Alexander; daughter, Margaret McCutchen; daughter Nemsey's children; son, William; son, Joseph; son, Oliver; daughter, Jane Weir; daughter, Sidney Beard; sons, John and Charles; daughters, Mary, Martha, Fanny; son, Samuel (to take profession). Executors, wife Susanna, sons William and John. Teste: Joseph and Samuel Beard, Michael Koonts. Proved, 22d July, 1806. Executors qualify.
- Page 246.--26th February, 1817. Charles Sproul's will--To brother, John; sister, Jean Weir; sister, Mary Sproul; to brother, Joseph; brother, Oliver; sister, Martha Hutcheson; to sister, Fanny Thomson; sister Sidney Beard's children, viz: Polly, William, Susannah, Jeanatte, and John; to half-brother, James Sproul; to children of half-brother, Alexander Sproul; to half-sister, Margaret McCutchen; to Alexander Beard; to Wm. Beard; to Thomas Beard; to half-brother, William Sproul. Executors, brother John Sproul, Thos. Thomson. Teste: Joseph Beard, Hugh Dougherty, Ro. Hutchison. Proved, 28th April, 1817. Revolutionary War Pension Information
Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 5, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
- Sproul, Alexander, son of William and brother of James, entered service 1781 in Augusta County, Virginia, in Virginia regiment; married 5/15/1781 Jane (abt. age 18), daughter of William Beard, Augusta County, who resided then 4 miles from soldier's father's house; soldier & wife moved from there to Cumberland (area later Clinton county) Kentucky, where soldier and their son Joseph entered service for service in War of 1812; soldier died in that service in Ohio but Joseph came home safely; widow applied for pension 1845 in Clinton County, Kentucky, when son William made affidavit age 61 there; widow's pension application rejected; surname also spelled Sprowl.
