4. ALEXANDER McCORKLESon of john. Born August 7, 1773. Died March 10, 1849. Married Mildred Welch of Fancy Hill (on Lee Highway between Lexington and Natural Bridge). For many years he was an elder in the Presbyterian church in Lexington. A captain in the War of 1812. He was one of the most respected men in the Valley of Virginia. Left ten children.
