McCorkle Gleanings

The Rev. Louis McCorkle, author of From Viking Glory and one of the most diligent McCorkle researchers, sorts the early McCorkles as follows:

"The First Three" (These three may have been the sons of Alexander McCorquodale)

1. James, b.c. 1700 in Argyle Co. Scotland. Landed in Philadelphia and settled in the forks of the Brandywine River in 1729. His wife was Jane and they had seven sons and one daughter.
2. William, also landed in Philadelphia, about 1730 and moved to the Valley of Virginia.
3. Samuel, settled in Paxtang c. 1737, and married an Alexander.
