Facts and Events
Alexander Dugger was born ca 1810/1820 per his age on the 1840 census. If this is the same Alexander Dugger who married Sarah Malone in 1822, then that age from 1840 must be off somewhat. Is there any proof that Alexander Dugger is a son of Daniel Dugger and Sarah Weems? On 30 Apr 1822 Alexander Dugger obtained a marriage bond in Greene Co., TN to marry Sally Melone. James Jones was the bondsman. It isn't certain whether this is the same Alexander who was in Roane Co., TN later, but it probably is. There is an Alexander Dugger listed in Roane Co., TN on the 1830 census, in fact there are two of them. Both seem too old to be this Alexander. (See Alexander Dugger for other explanations about who Alexander of 1830 might be.) However it seems quite possible that the one on page 43 is indeed this Alexander. Consider the census entry:
The natural assumption is that the head of household "Alexander" must be the oldest man in the house. This isn't always the case. The older person could be his father or his father-in-law or perhaps even someone else. The 1830 entry could be Alexander and wife Sarah, and her parents and some of her unmarried siblings. It is impossible to know for sure. Here is one possible analysis of the household:
If the above household is the same Alexander, then the older folks had moved out (or died) before 1840. In Roane Co., TN for the 1840 census close to Sarah, widow of Daniel Dugger.
I couldn't find Alexander or Sarah on the 1850 census, nor any apparent children who could have been part of this family. What happened to them all? |
