[From unnamed family sources:] He became ill while in Jackson County, Arkansas, visiting his newly married daughter and son-in-law, Roena Alexander and Robert Green. He made his will there 4 Oct 1857 and died 20 Oct 1857. The will was probated 23 Oct 1857, in which he bequeathed to each of his surviving children one-quarter of his estate. His body was returned home to Haywood County for burial.
