Albert F. Lestina Dies Suddenly At Rochester

Albert Lestina was taken to Rochester, Minn., Sunday, and Wednesday night, March 4th, word was received here that he had died. His death was caused by heart trouble. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 o'clock in St. Patrick Catholic church. Friends may call at the Funeral Home, where the remains were taken when brought from Rochester.


Albert F. Lestina

Albert F. Lestina was born in Giard township, Clayton County, Iowa, Oct. 27, 1879, and died at Rochester, Minn., March 4, 1936, at the age of 56 years, 4 months and 23 days.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lestina, who came to this country from Bohemia and settled on a farm near Watson in the early day. Here Albert grew to manhood and on Feb. 23, 1903, was united in marriage to Miss Barbara Suchanek at St. Patrick's Church by Rev. Father Hogan. They made their home on a farm in Cooper Valley, Giard township, until a few years ago, when they moved to Monona. There were born to them three children: Benjamin, on the farm, Rita, Mrs. Irving Hartong of Church, Iowa, and Alberta, at home.

He was a man highly respected by all, honest and upright in his dealings and held the respect and esteem of all who knew him. His death came after but a few days of illness, caused by heart trouble.

He is survived by his wife and three children; his aged father, Albert Lestina Sr.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Moses and Mrs. John Moses, Monona, and Mrs. Frank Samek of Postville; one brother, Frank Lestina of Monona; and four grandchildren.

Funeral was held from St. Patrick's Church, Monona, Saturday morning, March 7th, conducted by Rev. Father Donlon. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. Pall bearers were: Martin Vlazny, George Licht, Harry C. Fox, Walter Dewey, Elmer Drallmeier, Ed Scheffert, Chris Kohler, Irvin Scheffert, Wm. Hubacher and P.H. Humphrey.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Joe Suchanek, Fountain City, Minn.; Tom Suchanek and Mrs. Nick Schmidt, LaCrosse, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Suchanek and son Junior, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Suchanek, East Moline, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Irving Hartong and daughters Vivian and Bernadine, Lansing, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Samek and son, Mr. and Mrs. Will Kozelka and family, Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Vlad Macha, Mabel, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. George Yonda, Lamont, Iowa.
