Gibson, 77, died at 8:25 PM Tuesday in Mercy Hospital after an 8 month illness. He had lived in Independence since early childhood, except for Spanish-American War service & the years from 1910 to 1917, which he spent in California. He had been a carpenter during his adult life. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM, Thursday in the Potts Funeral Home chapel, conducted by Rev. Paul Sodowsky of the Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Gibson was born Feb 19, 1879 at Quenemo, KS to Willard & Alice (Cade) Gibson & accompanied them to Independence when a small child. On Sept 29, 1908 at Fort Smith, Arkansas, he was married to Nancy Driskill, who survives at the home, 615 1/2 North 14th. Other survivors include 3 foster children reared by Mr. & Mrs. Gibson. Two of them are children of a brother of Mrs. Gibson, Joe Driskill & Mrs. Martin Campbell, both of Independence. The other is Mrs. Clyde Barber of Fort Scott. He leaves a nephew, Fred Gibson of Okemah, OK & a great nephew, Edmund Gibson of Tulsa, OK, both of whom will be here for the services. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Dora Gibson & several nieces & nephews live in CA. Mr. Gibson was the last living member of his immediate family, which included 3 brothers & 4 sisters. Pallbearers will be Donald Newmaster, Ivan Bracken, Warren Sallisbury, Carl Elliott, Thomas Grant & Perry Newman. BIBLE RECORDS: In possession of John Driskill of Independence, KS; of which I have zeroxed copies. NOTES: Aug 5, 1907--Nancy lived in Childers, OK where she received a love card from Ft Smith, Arkansas Aug 8, 1908--Card sent to Albert from Minnie Stierwalt, St Edward Infirmary, Ft Smith, Arkansas. Albert was in Coffeyville at the time. Sept 6, 1908--Nancy was single & living at 1118 North 14th St; Ft Smith, Arkansas. She had received a post card to this address. She was age 24. Sept 29, 1908 she was married in Ft Smith, Arkansas According to Laura Barbarick, Nancy worked at the Carlleon Hotel as a Chamber Maid in Ft Smith, Ark. She stated that Nancy met Albert in Ft Smith. This is not possible as the Gibson's lived in the Coffeyville--Independence area. She apparentley joined Albert in Ft Smith, Arkansas. Nov 11, 1910--Laura was with Nancy as there was a post cart to them from Minnie Stierwalt in Bakersfield, CA. Dec 25, 1913--Nancy lived at 1911 South Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA. This was after her marriage to Albert Gibson. Nov 18, 1918--Mrs. A.C. Gibson of Independence, LeHunt, KS received a postcard from Bakersfield, CA (Minnie Stierwalt ?) PICTURES: Yes
