Agnes E. Johanningmeier, 95, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Great River Care Center, McGregor, after an extended illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Karl Glovik. Private burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Stewart Funeral Home, where a rosary begins at 4 p.m. Survivors include a daughter, Germaine Knudten of Indian River Shores, Fla.; and a brother, Lawrence Moses, and sister, Irene Holly, both of Prairie du Chien, Wis. Agnes was born Jan. 22, 1905, in Allamakee County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna Lestina Moses. She married Werner Johanningmeier on Feb. 16, 1926, in Monona, Iowa. He died Jan. 23, 1970. Agnes lived in Cedar Rapids from 1942 to 1999, then moved to McGregor. She trained as a Red Cross nurse during World War II. She was a member of St. Rita's Circle, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charter Chapter of American Business Women's Association and life member of St. Luke's and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. Agnes was the first volunteer in St. Luke's Flower Stall and also managed real estate property for many years. Agnes was also known as "Mrs. Hoyle" among her card-playing friends.
