Agnes Kempson was born on 10th January 1880 at Luton in Bedfordshire, daughter of a straw hat sewer named Sarah Ann Kempson, formerly Smith, and her husband James Kempson, a bricklayer and plait bleacher. The 1881 census finds Agnes living with her parents and siblings at Park Place in the centre of Luton. By 1891 she was living with her mother and siblings at Chobham Street, in the southern suburbs of the town. Her father was not at home on census night, being in St Albans jail - he was convicted of poaching many times. In 1901, Agnes was living with her sister Elizabeth at 33 Albert Road, close to where her parents were living.

In 1904, aged 24, Agnes married a foundry labourer named Francis (or Frank) Linsley. The 1911 census finds them living together at 162 New Town Street, and reporting that in the six years since their marriage they had had no children. It appears that they did eventually have one child, born in in 1913, nearly nine years after their marriage.

By 1918, Agnes and Frank had settled at 39 Cambridge Street, where Agnes' parents had been living in the 1911 census. Agnes' father died in 1915. Her mother died in 1919, and Agnes was the informant for the death.

At the outbreak of the Second World War, Agnes and Frank were still living at 39 Cambridge Street, with Frank working as a bricklayer. He died in 1940, aged 62.

Agnes outlived him for over 35 years. She continued to live at 39 Cambridge Street until about 1957, when she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law at 90 Blenheim Crescent, to the north of the town centre. She appears to have lived with them until her death in 1976, aged about 96.

Agnes' date of birth was later given as 10 Jan 1879, in both the 1939 register and when she died. However, as her birth was actually registered in the first three months of 1880 it is considered more likely that she was actually born on 10 Jan 1880.
