Facts and Events
Alf Bromnick lived in London all of his life. He was born at home, in 1914, at Josephine House, Spitalfields [[1]] , in Whitechapel, City of London, Parliamentary Borough of Tower Hamlet. Alf married Rosita (Rose) Baskin, in London, in 1939 after a long courtship. They married on September 3, 1939 which was the day Great Britain and France officially declared war on Germany. World War II: Alf fought in Burma during the second world war with the 77th Indian Infantry Brigade and in 1944 3rd Indian Infantry Division (Chindits)[[2]]. He served from 1941-1944. While Alf was away, twice, Rose received telegrams he was 'missing in action and presumed dead'. As it turns out he had been separated from his company during action while in the jungles of burma. As well as himself, Alf had five other brothers who served with the British Armed Forces during the Second World War. Against all odds, all of them returned home to London, although his brother Myer[3]] was seriously injured during the Battle of Arnhem [4].
