"He received the education afforded by the select schools of PaxtangValley, and most of his life he has passed in farming. For several yearshe has been president of the First National Bank of Hummelstown, and beenidentified with other corporations, and active in various localenterprises of the day. In 1835 he was captain of the Tenth company,Ninety-eighth regiment Pennsylvania militia. For many years he has beenone of the vice-presidents of the Pennsylvania State AgriculturalSociety, in the founding of which he took a prominent part.
