p 593 - Aaron V. Shideler, eldest son of Jacob and Susan (Miller) Shideler, was born in Wayne County, Indi., June 5, 1840. His father came from Montgomery County, Ohio, about 1816, and was married about 1838, in Wayne County, Ind., and soon after settled on a farm adjoining the one now occupied by our subject. This couple had a family of twelve children, six of whom survive - Aaron V., Mary, wife of John Snyder, of Hamilton County, Ind.; Lavina, wife of Abraham Wissler; Elizabeth, wife of George Anthony; Joseph M. an Amanda. Their parents are at present residing on a farm near Cambridge City, and bid fair to live to a good old age. Aaron V. was reared a farmer receiving only a common-school educatio. He was married in 1860 to Rachel Dill, a native of Wayne County and daughter of John S. and Rebecca Dill, who came from Berks County, Pa., in an early day. They have five children living - Moses T., Monroe L., Samuel S., Luella R. and Harry Sankey. A son, William E., died in infancy. Soon after his marriage Mr. Shideler settled on the farm where he still resides, which contains 140 acres of valuable land in a high state of cultivation, and where he is engaged in farming and stock-raising. Mr. Shideler has served one term as Road Supervisor. He is a prominent member of the Evangelical Association, formerly known as the alrights. He was ordained Deacon of the church in 1867, and was regularly ordained in 1873. He has held all the important offices of his church, being at present its Trustee. His wife and children belong to the same church.

18 Apr 1895, p 3 - Rev. Aaron Shideler came within one of being seriously injured, one day last week, in attempting to cross the bridge that spans the railroad at this place, by his horse scaring and backing down the embankment on the south side of the railroad and lodging on the wire fence. Luckily he escaped with but little injury to himself, but mutilating his harness and buggy to quite an extent. His horse became frightened at a passing engine.

18 Sep 1902, p 3 - There was a happy gathering of the family of Mr. and Mrs. A.V. Shideler t their home at Pleasant hill, last Sunday. There were present four of their five children. Samuel Shideler, who lives in Colorado, was the absent one. There were present eleven of their twelve grandchildren, Albert, son of Moses Shideler, was unable to attend. The day was beautiful and bright, and harmonized perfectly in making this joyful home-coming an event that will ever bring pleasant memories of this, perhaps, the last coming together at the old home farm. The dinner was one of mother Shideler's best efforts, and the table was well ladened with an abundance of everything good to eat. Grandmother Susan Shideler, aged 86 years, and her 20 months' old great-grand child were seated together at the head of the table, representing the oldest and youngest members of the family. The cup of joy of parents and children was overflowing from their pleasure of this occasion.

2 Nov 1916, p 3 - Aaron V. Shideler, oldest of twelve children born to Jacob and Susannh Shideler, was born on a farm near Pleasant hill, June 5, 1840, and departed this life at his home in Cambridge City, October 30, 1916, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 25 days. On January 27, 1861, he united his life with that of Rachel Dill, who happily accompanied him through life's journey for more than fifty years. This union was blessed with six children, one of whom died in infancy. Early in life he was ordained a minister of the Evangelical denomination, and while he never held a charge it was his privilege and pleasure to officiate in the capacity of pastor on many occasions. One of his greatest delights was to participate in church and kindred work. At the bedside of the sick his words and prayers were ever cheering. In Sunday school and church his presence was always appreciated. He held the superintendency of the Jackson township Sunday school association for tewnty years, a proof of appreciation of his devotion to this work. As a husband and father he was ideal, ever solicitous to the welfare of his family and grandchildren. As a friend and neighbor he was kind and generous always willing to lend a helping hand and speak a kindly word. With the exception of a year spent in Huntington county soon after his marriage, his entire life was spent in the neighborhood of his birth until nine years ago when they moved to the home they occupied here.* About two years ago his health broke and his decline was gradual from that time. Some eight weeks ago he was taken to his bed with his final sickness. Heart trouble developed and at 1:30 o'clock Monday the end came peacefully. A truly good man has gone to his rest. He is survived by the widow, five children, Moses Shideler and Harry Shideler of this city, Rev. Monroe Shideler of Evansville, Samuel Shideler of Corpus Christi, Texas; Mrs. W.H. Cook of Hicksville, Ohio. Fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also mourn their loss. Of his father's family he is survived by three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Abraham Whissler of near Hagerstown, Mrs. George Anthony of Montpelier, Mrs. Amanda Sarver of this city and Joseph Shideler of Knightstown. Funeral Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the M.E. church. Rev. Weyant officiating.
