Notes

According to information provided me by Lester Gipson (now deceased), other descendants, mainly in Missouri at the time, records were passed down by a Cecil Snider who knew Peter Snider (brother of Rev. George) when Cecil was a child and transcribed bible records, etc.: Johann Gerg Schneider was born in Wurttemberg (not yet Germany, but a kingdom) before 1733. Johann Gerg and two of his brothers, Johann Jacob and Martin Schneider went from Wurttemberg in January 1749 to Rotterdam, then to Cowes, England, where they worked as shipbuilders for a period of seven months, under the sponsorship of Quakers, for passage to Philadelphia. Two ships landed at Philadelphia on 17 Oct 1749. The ship Dragon, Daniel Nichols, Master, from Rotterdam, last from Portsmouth, England, on which Johann Gerg Schneider is listed as a passenger, and the ship Fane, Capt. Wm. Hyndman, Master, from Rotterdam, but last from Cowes, England, with two Jacob Schneiders and a Johann Jacob Schneider. (Penn. German Pioneers, STROSSBURGER & HINKE, vol. 1, p. 424) (Names of Foreigners Who Took the Oath of allegiance to the Province, William H. Engle).

The Sniders moved inland to the Susquehanna Valley near a Quaker meeting house, where the remained for around 10 years, then in early 1760 migrated to the Shenandoah Valley, bought property and settled. In Pennsylvania George had married Elizabeth Pence (sometimes called Bence, may have been Benz originally). In Virginia he and Elizabeth had seven children: John, b. c1766, d. after 1842 in Monroe Co., Tenn, (probably the John in Tuckaleechee, near Indian Killer), Frederick, b. c 1767, d. 31 Aug 1846 in Monroe Co,. TN, George, Jr. (Rev.), Elizabeth, b. c1771, d. c 1847), Michael, b. c 1773, d. 22 Aug 1858, Carter Co., MO, Mary "Polly", b. c1775, Peter, b. c1776, d. 21 Feb 1867 in Blount co., TN.

John (above) had a son William. On 7 Nov 1820, William Snider was married to Peggy White in Blount Co., Tenn. by George Snider, M.G. I suspect this is same William and also the William who was in Missouri later, but only suspect this. Peggy being nickname for Margaret.

George Snider (immigrant) executed a will on 9 April 1781, which was probated 13 May 1785 in Shenandoah co., VA, in which he left everything to his wife ,except for one shilling "to my oldest son." He had died about 1782. So this Johann wasn't the John Snider in Tuckaleechee.
