314 MAY, 1755. Montgomery vs. Hamilton.--John Hamilton, of Mills Creek Hundred, in the County of New Castle on Delaware. Taylor and Moses Hamilton of same place. Carpenter and Alexander Montgomery of same place. Mason bond to Benjamin Swett of New Castle, affirmed tanner, dated 1748. John and Moses returned executors.

Bill, 2d August, 1805.

Elizabeth is only daughter of John Robinson, who owned land on Roanoke and was killed by Indians about 1756, Elizabeth being then only two years old. Alexander and Elizabeth married in 1772.

Thomas Robinson was a brother of John. [Their father] James Robinson, sent son John from Pennsylvania to Virginia, to buy lands.) Thomas Robinson lost his life at the big defeated Camps on the other side of Cumberland Mountain. See:McNitt's Defeat All his family were either killed or taken prisoner.

Garnett and John H. Peyton [of Kentucky] each married a daughter of Elizabeth and William Madison (who was son of John) Garnett married Agatha S., and John H. peyton married Susanna. (Land is in Montgomery County.)

Hugh Crockett deposes he came to the Roanoke country in 1749 and the Robinsons were already there. Hugh's sister married John Robinson? The Crocketts and Robinsons had been neighbors in Lancaster, Penn. Thomas, William, and Samuel were sons of James Robinson, who had six sons. Samuel Crockett was brother of Hugh. John Robinson came to Roanoke in 1743 or 1744.

James Robinson, grandson of the original James, aged 67 years, deposes that previous to 1757 he lived in Augusta about 107 miles from the land in controversy. He moved to the Roanoke country in 1762 or 1763.

John Robinson's wife, mother of oratrix Elizabeth, was Mary.

William Davis deposes they were married 1752 or 1753. John was called Long John.

William Davis deposes, 5th May, 1808, in Abingdon, that he was born 15th February, 1733, old style.

John Draper, Sr., deposes, 5th April, 1806, that Jno. Robinson came to Roanoke in 1745.

The sons of James were John, William, Samuel, Thomas, Joseph. John Draper's first wife was a sister of John Robinson's. He was married April, 1754.

Col. William Robinson deposes, Fayette County, Kentucky, 27th April, 1806, that John Robinson owned the land, sold it to Kennedy for a negro which he had seen in possession of his sister, mother of Elizabeth.

Col. William is brother of Col. David Robinson, lately deceased.

James Robinson was dead when deponent first knew the family in 1751. John died in 1756.

Mary Montgomery, mother of Elizabeth, deposes same time and place as above.

James Montgomery, husband of Mary, deposesas above.

Elizabeth and Alexr. were married in 1774. James married Mary in 1760.

George Fugate vs. Mahon--O. S. 177; N. S. 63--Bill, 1808 ...John Montgomery deposes in

Russell County, 1810. In 1771 he moved out to this country in company with his father, Alexander Montgomery, his mother, Martha, and his brother, Alexander, and others. The same fall Robert Trimble, Benj. Logan and some others stayed at his father's house. William Carr is supposed to be a near relation to Genl. Joseph Martain. Deponent's brother, Alexander, is a gunsmith who is 2-1/2 years older than deponent. Deponent is now 46

146 Alexander Montgomery deposes in Russell, 7th March, 1810, that in

1771 he moved with his father to this part of the country and lived with his father 8 or 10 years. In 1772 one William Huston, _____ Frazier, and Francis Fugate returned up Mockerson and Fugate said he had been improving land at the Rocky Spring. Francis Fugate moved there with his family in 1772 or 3. Deponent was 48 years old the first of last month.

227 McKenney vs. Preston--O. S. 308; N. S. 110--John Montgomery of

Russel County, aged 47 years, deposes, 11th March, 1811, in 1778 Andrew Cowan and Thos. Osborn went down to improve a piece of land on a creek they called Black Water at the Flat Lick, and on their return they came by Kooser's (Hoovers) cabin. Black Water is a north Branch of Clynch. John and Titus Benton were killed by the Indians 34 or 35 years ago. March, 1811, Alexander Montgomery, aged 49 years, deposes.

241 David Greenlee vs. Mary Greenlee's administrator--O. S. 330; N. S. 119--

Bill, 1817. Mary Greenlee of Rockbridge died 14th March, 1809, widow and intestate, leaving five children, viz: James Greenlee; Mary, wife of Hugh Hays; Grace, wife of Charles McDowell; Samuel Greenlee; six grandchildren, children of deceased son John Greenlee; three grandchildren, children of deceased daughter Margaret Montgomery. Widow of Wm. Montgomery, deceased, viz:' James, Alexander and Mary (wife of William Davis) Montgomery. James Greenlee died March, 1813. Charles McDowell, William Montgomery and William Davis are dead.
