The Indian depredations began in the territory of what is now the county of Tazewell, in the year of 1776. In the month of May of that year they destroyed John Henry, His wife, and six children in Thompson's Valley, and carried on little boy away a prisoner.. In the same year they captured John Evans. In the year 1779 the family of jesse Evans was attacked by eight or ten Indians, four of his chilrrenwere killed, his wife with one child escaping to Major Taylor's.
