This map was developed to support an analysis of the Houston-Snoddy-Mitchell families in the Fort Dobb's area. See Analysis:Houston Snoddy settlement near Fort Dobbs

• Person:Christopher Houston (1) initially settled south of Fort Dobbs about 1760, and appears there on the 1773 William Sharp Map of the congregation of the Third Creek Meetinghouse.
  
• Person:Samuel Snoddy (5) settled on Elk Shoal Creek by 1755
• Person:John Snoddy (1), brother of Samuel, settled on Caudle Creek about the same time.

Both Samuel Snoddy and Christopher Houston show marriage ties to the family of person:John Mitchell (XX). Mitchell died "on" the Skullykil River in or near Philadelphia, about 1760. His wife moved south to North Carolina, settling in this area. One of her daughters married a son of Christopher Houston, and a son married a daughter of Samuel Snoddy. Sometime after the revolution, both Christopher and Samuel moved to the Hunting Creek area north of Statesville.
