About John Stewart of Middle River

John Stewart, son of John Stuart and Judith (surname unknown), was born abt. 1721 in (prob.) Scotland and died before 21 August 1771, in Augusta County, Virginia. John was married twice; first to Sarah Givens, daughter of Samuel Givens and Sarah Cathey, abt. 1750; second to Mary (some say Mary Shaw) before 20 Augusta 1765 in (prob.) Augusta County, Virginia. John Stewart acquired several tracts in Augusta County as detailed below:

Ephraim Vause to John Stewart and John Given, £40, 179 acres on the Little River (description omitted in record but listed as "179 acres on a branch on north side of the Little River of New River, patented, 22d August, 1753, to Robert Box and conveyed by Ephraim Vause to said John Given and John Stewart" in disposition below). (Note: John Givens was the father-in-law of John Stewart).
