Marriage to Agnes Glasgow

The wife of gentleman John Snoddy of Abingdon is commonly identified as Ann Glasgow. Their marriage date is commonly given as either 7 October 1741 or 7 August 1741. Marriage records for the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia (where some say they were married) show a marriage for John Snoddy and Agnes on 7 August 1741. (See Source:Linn and Egle, 1880). This is probably the basis for the 7 August 1741 marriage date. The 7 October 1741 marriage date may simply be an error, where someone miswrote the DOM, substituting October for August, or may reflect another marriage between a different John Snoddy and Agnes Glasgow.

Relocation

A John Snoddy appears in Buckingham County (then Albemarle) acquiring land in 1744. Some believe this John Snoddy is the one who married Agnes Glasgow in Philadelphia in 1741. However, it appears from subsequent records that this John Snoddy remained in Buckingham County at least until 1771 when he appears in the "Ten Thousand name Petition" [See Va Gen. Soc Quarterly ]. Data is needed to see why people think that wife of John Snoddy of Buckingham Co is Agnes Glasgow.

Most people identify "gentleman John Snoddy of Abingdon as the John Snoddy who married Agnes Glasgow, but again, information is needed to see why they so conclude.

As it stands we have no way to sort between the identification of Agnes Glasgow's husband as John Snoddy of Buckingham, or John Snoddy of Abingdon. Nor do we have firm data to show that her last name was "Glasgow".
