two sybil brighams [21 August 2011]

NEHGR, Vol. 61, p. 23, "Inscriptions at Sudbury": In memory of Mrs. Sibbler Maynar'd wife of Mr. Zechariah Maynar'd who died Feb'r: 15th: 1778. In ye 56th: year of her Age. [Since she was 55, she was born about 1722-1723.]

In VR Hopkinton: Godard, Sybel, [died] Sept. 27, 1807. [Sibbil Goddard, wid., old age, a. 89. CR1] [Age 89, so born about 1718.]

Of these two, the daughter of Samuel Brigham and Elizabeth Morse who was born in 1718, is most likely to be the wife of Ebenezer Goddard than Zachariah Maynard. The two marriages are both recorded in the 1730's, (Framingham: Goddard, Ebenezer and Sabylla Brigham of Marlboro, Jan. 27, 1736"; Sudbury: "Maynard, Zachariah and Sibil Brigham, --, 173-[torn]"). So there is no possibility that one woman married both husbands.

One possibility that comes to mind, assuming the record recorded in Sudbury has the wrong maiden name, is Person:Sybil Ward (1), who has approximately the right birth date, and there was some connection between the Ward and Maynard families (John Maynard (1661-1731) married Lydia Ward (1665-1740)). I cannot find any source that has any information beyond her birth date. This is pretty far out in left field, though, and only offered as an out-of-the-box guess. --Jrich 00:50, 22 August 2011 (EDT)
The will of Samuel Brigham, dated 23 Jul 1768, proved 24 Apr 1771, mentions daughter Sibbel goddard, proving it was not his daughter that married Zachariah Maynard. --Jrich 17:53, 7 September 2011 (EDT)
