Susan, I don't think middle names were commonly used at that time. I think what the submitter intended was that William was an alternate name. It was shown as "John|William?".--Scot 14:07, 16 October 2009 (EDT)

This John Potter [that married Hannah Mead], if he existed, is not connected to the Potter/Beecher family of Lewes, Suffolk and New Haven, Connecticut. As far as sources are concerned, Patricia Law Hatcher sorted in out in a 2004 article in The American Genealogist. See Source:Hatcher, Patricia Law.
