Family talk:Samuel Wheeler and Martha Hosmer (1)

From Samuel Wheeler and Unknown Ruth (1): Anybody's guess [11 March 2010]

Working on Family:Joseph Wheeler and Ruth Fox (1) and since their children are born in Acton, they match the children on this page. However, the children on this page, excepting Nathan b. 1771 have no birthdates. However, based on father's birthdate in 1744 and d. 1832, it did not seem applicable.

Looking further in Acton VRs, there is no death record for Samuel Wheeler in Acton in 1832. There are no children for any Samuel and Ruth Wheeler. There is no birth of Samuel in the family of Hezekiah and Sarah Wheeler, and in fact, the VRs show Abigail born into this family 31 Mar 1744, making it virtually impossible they had another child named Samuel b. 1744. This page appears to be based in fantasy.

The page cites Albert Gallatin Wheeler. This source is full of errors that bear no resemblance to reality, on this and other families. A much better source for Wheeler genealogy is Source:Wheeler Families of Old Concord, Massachusetts (viewable here). Albert Wheeler seems to have accepted other people's research without any checking, as indicated by its remark on Samuel Wheeler, p. 27: "190. Samuel Wheeler, born 1744. Whose descendants claim he was the son of the above parents [Hezekiah and Sarah]." A simple check of the vital records would have shown this was not so.

As near as I can tell, this page is intended to be Family:Samuel Wheeler and Martha Hosmer (1), Samuel being the son of the Joseph Wheeler cited above. This family did live in Acton and had children John, Jonas, Joseph, Martha and Nathan (b. 1771!) recorded in Acton. This seems to be the most correspondence to any actual family that I can find. That means that the wrong Samuel is on this page, the wife's name wasn't Ruth, and it is not clear who the additional children are. I am merging them as the most expeditious way to clean this up. --Jrich 16:55, 11 March 2010 (EST)
