Family talk:Samuel Buchanan and Martha Keys (1)

From Samuel Buchanan and Martha Keyes (1): Wife [26 April 2009]

The identification of Samuel's wife as "Martha Keyes" seems to be based on Source:Allison, 1960. Allison does not provide a verifiable source for this information. This seems to be a minority view among genealogists. Other authors believe Samuel's wife was "Martha Edmiston". Some genealogists interpret this as indicating that Samuel married twice. His will identifies his wife as "Martha", which at least confirms that half of her name is probably correct. But whether he married Martha Edmiston or Martha Keyes, or both is not obvious. From Samuel Buchanan and Martha Keyes (1): Children [26 April 2009]

Samuel's will identifies only three sons. Robert, Samuel, and John. Source:Allison, 1960 includes other children, apparently based on a private manuscript. Since she does not quote that manuscript, and it is not likely that it is readily available, her conclusion can not be examined. However, given that Samuel's will identifies only Robert, Samuel, and John, I think we would be hard pressed to say that Andrew and Moses were also his sons. Q 20:35, 26 April 2009 (EDT)
