Family talk:John Hays and Rebecca Unknown (2)

From John "Hermitage" Hays and Rebecca Maxwell (Thompson) (1): Page Title and existing duplicate [24 July 2014]

Hello again - the wiki Page Title is one of those "rules" that we have to follow - please see Help:Family pages.
In this case, the Family Page Title should be "John Hays and Rebecca MaidenName (#)", where the # is generated by the site depending on how many other pages of that title already exist. In looking at the history of this page, I see your note about distinguishing between this Family and others with similar names. Rest assured that we can handle that via a descriptive name on the Person page which will transclude (i.e. render) on the Family page to provide clarification. In the meantime, it appears that we have to untangle and match some other Hay(e)s information that was uploaded by another researcher Cthrnvl in 2011. It appears that they have already created a page for this Family (Family:John Hays and Rebecca Unknown (2) ) and have information for Rebecca, but not for John. So - before we clean this up and rename/merge the pages - may I ask if you have proof that Rebecca's maiden name was Thompson that can be added to her page? If not, then it should be left as "Rebecca Unknown" for now and the theories/evidence surrounding her maiden name can be added to her Person Page. --Cos1776 17:08, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

I had no idea what you meant by "Hello again" since we hadn't communicated previously. By chance I saw your addition to the Talk page for this family when I looked at my Watchlist. After some searching around, I see that you included a comment on Quolla6's talk page in regards Harmon Hays. I have email notification ON for these pages but some reason I didn't get notified of your changes. Hmm...
In any case, Hello. I have exchanged Talk messages and email with Bill (Quolla6) and hoped to communicate with DeliJim since he's done so much work on HAYS clans. Anyway, pleasure to make your acquaintance.
Thanks for the information on naming convention for the Family namespaces. I have only recently started to create pages in WeRelate and still a complete newbie. I planned on creating a page (actually I'll probably be linking to an existing page for John but need some guidance) for John "Hermitage Hays and Rebecca Maxwell Hays. I can update the name of the family page at that time OR I can merge the two family pages -- either way. I'm not sure whether I saw the existing family page during the matching step but it wasn't clear, even when I looked at it explicitly, that this was the same family since it is basically blank.
Can you please tell me (or point me to the right page) what information conflicts with user:Cthrnvl? I tried to identify his work and didn't see anything related to my HAYS people.
My apologies that I assumed you would see the comment on Quolla's Talk page before being alerted to the comment on this page. I didn't mean to confuse things. I am also not sure if your information conflicts with Cthrnvl's - that should reveal itself as you create and match pages. I did bump into his/her research while added my own Hay(e)s pages, but it is not difficult to merge pages where appropriate and to simultaneously document alternate theories when they occur. I have been working at this site for a while, so I am happy to help if needed. There is a little learning curve and some history in the preferred way of entering information, but once you get the hang of it, it should proceed smoothly, and most folks here are agreeable and mostly concerned with documenting accurate genealogy.
As far as this page goes, I do believe that User:Cthrnvl did intend for this to be the same family, so we should merge the Family pages. Before we do, I wanted to verify Rebecca's maiden name with you. Did you have a source for the surname "Thompson" and did you mean that was her maiden name? Regards, --Cos1776 18:06, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the information. We know Rebecca married Capt. Thomas Maxwell but there is no evidence (that I know of) that confirms the Thompson maiden name. Based on your comments, I guess we should leave it as unknown. Regards, --motohays 17:45, 24 July 2014 (UTC) (Mark A. Hays)
