Family talk:John Chandler and Mary Church (1)

Wrong Marriage Date [7 August 2010]

The date given on this page, 3 Nov 1748, from VR Billerica, belongs to a Rev. John Chandler and Mrs. Mary White of Haverhill. There is a second marriage listed in Billerica for Rev. John Chandler and Mrs. Elisabeth White of Haverhill in 1759. This is a different John Chandler.

Source:Davis, Horace. Ancestry of John Davis, Governor and U.S. Senator, and Eliza Bancroft, His Wife, Both of Worcester, Massachusetts, written by the great grandson of John Chandler who married for his second wife Mary Church says the wife died in 1783, meaning it wasn't him that remarried in 1759. This source gives the date of the marriage as 11 Jun 1746, and the first child born 18 May 1747. These facts are confirmed by Vital Record of Rhode Island (Mary Church was from Bristol, RI where she married 12 Jun 1746 John Chandler Jr. "of Worcester, Mass.") and VR Worcester, which contains the birth of their son Rufus in 1747.
