[add comment] [edit] Identifying James' and Ellen's families of origin [10 July 2014][add comment] [edit] Genetic links [13 July 2014]Two descendants of James and Ellen who are XXXX cousins share 4 matching genetic segments (SNPs) totaling approximately 62 cM. A third person of unknown relationship matches both of the two descendants on one of those segments at a length of 15-16 cM. While John and Ellen's families of origin in Ireland or locations are not known, the third person, by process of elimination, has determined that the match must be through an entirely Irish family branch which is known to be from County Clare (Ennis and Cratloe) and Limerick, particularly Limerick City, going back to 1820. Therefore a minimum of one ancestor (likely a couple) of either James or Ellen probably intersects with the ancestors, likely 1-2 generations more senior, of one of the following 8 people:
Currently, 15 surnames in the pool of 32 at the probable intersection point are likely known. [add comment] [edit] Overview of basic probabilities [11 July 2014]Note that the surnames of the common ancestry couple cannot be assumed to be represented in the above list, plus Bohan or Seymore. However, there should be some apparent overlap in the extended family network between these surnames. Co. Clare: Has very poor universal surname coverage in the period up to 1820. However, neither Bohan or Seymour is indexed in the tithe applotment lists or the ejectment books, although Bahan and Behane is. The following counties have a degree of good universal coverage starting around 1820 via parish records indexed in rootsireland.
