Both William and Rachel came from the UK to Baltimore County Maryland, probably as children. They met and raised the majority of their family there. William was 36 when the Declaration of Independence was signed and served two tours of duty, first in 1777 and again 6 years later in 1783. His unit served at Valley Forge so it is very likely he was there with George Washington.

They moved to Kentucky sometime between the 1790 census and the birth of their son Daniel in 1795. Eventually, they moved again to Centerville Ohio. William sold a farm in Mason County, Kentucky in 1800 so it is likely that they moved to Ohio after that.

William must have moved one last time as in 1820 he is reported in the census in for Miami county, immediately north of Montgomery county. Some of Williams children (Daniel, Abbot, James) remained in Montgomery county and some moved on to Miami county with him (Joshua, Amy, Rachel)
