Anniversary Celebration of Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell: "On Monday Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell, late of Jordanstone, celebrated their golden wedding in the Wharnclffe Hall, Newtyle. Hearty congratulations were accorded by many friends and well-wishers, and the worthy couple were the recipients of a number of gifts. Amongst these were two purses of sovereigns which were handed over on behalf of the family and friends by the Rev. William Maxwell in a, few well-chosen words. Mr. Mitchell suitably replied. The happy occasion was marked by much cordiality, one and all entering into the spirit of the gathering with zest.

"Mr. Mitchell was for many years station master at Jordanstone, and in that capacity was well known to the traveling public. He entered on his railway career as goods porter at Alyth Junction. He filled that post for five years, and was then shifted to Perth passenger department, and thence, to Dunning goods. From there he went to the Alyth branch as guard, and after fourteen years in that capacity was promoted to be station agent at Jordanstone. He remained in this post for 19 years, and retired in 1899 with a total service of 45 years. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell had a family of ten, of whom 6 daughters and, one son survive, and 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren."S1
