William Marks was probably born ca. 1795. He lived in the Magherafelt area in County Londonderry, Ireland. He owned a lumberyard and a tavern in Ballyronan, North Ireland. He married Jane Scott and may have married more than once. The Tithe Applotment books of Northern Ireland list William Marks as a landowner in Magherafelt.

In the 1950’s her great granddaughter Etta Conklin and Leslie Daley, a descendant of Ellen’s sister Mary corresponded. Leslie compiled Marks family information based on family information from his aunt and from a distant cousin, Robert Marks of Belfast, Ireland. Robert’s father was William Marks who had been born in 1832. Much of the information below is a result of this information. Information on the generations of James and William Marks agrees with information that other Marks family members have. A descendant of Ellen’s sister did some research on the family. It has not been verified but some of the information matches what other Marks family members have said.
