    m. William COLE & Elizabeth DRAKE, September Quarter 1848, Stoke Damerel Registration District, Volume 9, page 529

This marriage has been linked to the Elizabeth Drake baptised in 1821 at Bere Ferrers on the basis of the 1871 census in which Elizabeth wife of William Cole is living at Bere Ferrers with her father John Drake. The couple William and Elizabeth Cole appear at Bere Ferrers in each census from 1851 to 1881, and appear to have started having children in the late 1840s. This marriage is the only entry in the marriage index for England and Wales between 1837 and 1851 where there were parties named both William Cole and Elizabeth Drake. The Stoke Damerel registration district at this time was coterminous with the borough of Devonport.
