Marriage certificate names father as Joseph Daniel Dumas; Victor was of Cottage Green.

Victor and Frances arrived in Sydney aboard the "Petrel" on 19 November 1849, with their two eldest children - Victor E, then aged two, and Fanny, who is listed on the shipping records as an infant, meaning under the age of 12 months. The shipping records also list Victor as a schoolmaster from Sunbury, Middlesex. Frances is listed as his wife, from Sydenham, Kent. The most recent place of residence of the couple is listed as Dalston, Middlesex. Their religion was C of E., and both could read and write. Although it is not known how long they remained in NSW, the couple eventually settled in Mount Barker, South Australia, where Victor was, at various times, a printer, teacher and newspaper proprietor. Their only daughter, Fanny, later married her cousin, Wickstead Charles, son of Edmund and Sophia. Victor is buried in Blakiston, S.A.
